Breast Reduction
BREAST REDUCTION INTERVENTION IN ALBANIA
Overdeveloped or sagging or poorly shaped breasts can only be restored to an aesthetically pleasing appearance with surgery. Breast reduction is the surgery that reduces the excessive volume of the breasts. Breast reduction requires 1/2 days of hospitalization and the surgery takes about 3 hours under general anaesthesia. Breast reduction is recommended for all women who have excessive breast volume and which can be defined as gigantomastia or breast hypoplasia. The ailments related to this condition are back pain, scoliosis and poor posture caused by excessive weight of the breast.
During the surgery, skin scars of different sizes inevitably remain, you will have to stop smoking at least two weeks before and after the surgery in order not to nullify the possibility of correct healing, in fact like all surgeries this too will have scars that will stabilize with the weather; the surgeon will adopt all the techniques to obtain a beautiful scar located at the same level as the surrounding skin; however, there are factors that can modify the healing process, these can be: vascularization and innervation abnormalities, diabetic microangiopathy, protein deficiency, use of antineoplastic drugs, diabetes and cigarette smoking. There is also a pathological scarring in predisposed subjects with the formation of hypertrophic or even keloid scars. The length of hospitalization, the frequency of dressings, the time of stitch removal, it all depends on the individual clinical case and the technique used. The outcome is generally satisfactory from the outset and usually susceptible to further improvement in the following months.
The intervention lasts about two – three hours depending on the extent of the procedure necessary to achieve the desired correction. The techniques that can be used for breast reduction are numerous depending on the degree of breast hypertrophy. For this reason, the surgeon, after evaluating and studying the specific case, will perform an accurate drawing of the incisions that he intends to make before the surgery with a demographic marker. If the volumetric reduction to be implemented is limited, the incision can be performed around the nipple and from the nipple to the sub-mammary sulcus (vertical scar technique). If the initial breast volume is considerable, it is necessary to extend the incision also along the sub-mammary sulcus (inverted T scar techniqu
The surgeon will remove excess mammary gland, fat and skin. The surgeon will position the areola and the nipple in a new, more appropriate location while maintaining their vascularity and innervation. The skin flaps above and on the sides of the areola are brought down and joined at the bottom. The sutures close the incisions around the areola and in the lower part of the breast, thus giving a new shape and a new contour to the breasts. The residual scars will have variable extensions depending on the technique used and are permanent. It is often necessary to leave drains on the suction side. Antibiotic therapy will be set.Occasionally a minor scar revision surgery (which can also be done under local anaesthesia) may be required later to achieve a better cosmetic outcome.
The Postoperative
Immediately after surgery, moderate pain in the treated region is possible, however, it can be controlled with normal painkillers. after leaving the hospital, adequate therapy will be prescribed by the surgeon. The compression dressing and the support bra should be kept for four to five days ,24 hours a day. After removing the compression dressing, the support bra should continue to be worn for four weeks and a manual lymphatic drainage cycle is recommended.Vodder of the thoracic region to facilitate the resorption of edema. The stitches are usually removed after two to three weeks.
The results, generally speaking, are immediately noticeable, but it will take three to six months for the breast to be modelled permanently. It is advisable to rest as much as possible in the first week and gradually increase activity in the second and third postoperative weeks. It is advisable not to raise your arms over your head for 2 weeks and avoid any physical exertion for 3 weeks. Showers and baths will generally be allowed after two weeks. It is necessary to sleep on the back for at least 20 days. Sports activity can be resumed after 4-8 weeks. Sexual activity can be resumed after about 2 weeks. If the patient’s work is such that it requires considerable physical effort, a longer recovery period will be required.Antibiotics will be given for a few days. The post-operative orders of the doctor must be followed carefully, following the prescriptions provided, as they are important in order to achieve an optimal result.
