An undeveloped or slightly sagging breast can only acquire a pleasant appearance with a surgical intervention: breast augmentation.
This surgery consists in inserting a special prosthesis in the breast region (above or below the pectoral muscle). Candidates for this operation are women whose breasts are small or who have lost consistency or who are emptied following repeated breastfeeding, or that have unwanted shape and volume or who are asymmetrical.The type of anaesthesia, the length of hospitalization, the frequency of dressings, the time of removal of stitches depending on the individual clinical case and the technique used.
The outcome is usually optimal but in a modest percentage of cases the prostheses undergo a hardening that can be annoying for the patient and sometimes even alter the shape of the breast itself. There is no scientific evidence that the insertion of silicone breast implants has any influence on the onset of breast cancer. Prostheses tend to make those small dysmorphisms that generally go completely unnoticed before surgery and which should be highlighted and evaluated first, for any corrections where possible, more evident.
The access route and the resulting scar can be inframammary, peri areolar or axillary.
During the operation, skin scars of different sizes inevitably remain, it will be necessary to stop smoking at least two weeks before and after the surgery in order not to lower the possibility of correct healing, in fact like all surgical interventions this will also have scars that will stabilize with time; the surgeon will adopt all the techniques to obtain a beautiful scar located at the same level as the surrounding skin; however, there are factors that can modify the healing process, these can be: vascularization and innervation abnormalities, diabetic microangiopathy, protein deficiency, use of antineoplastic drugs, diabetes and cigarette smoking. There is also a pathological scarring in predisposed subjects with the formation of hypertrophic or even keloid scars.The type of anaesthesia, the length of hospitalization, the frequency of dressings, the time of removal of stitches depends on the individual clinical case and the technique used.

Antibiotic therapy will be set.
The operation with admission to the Day Hospital is performed under general anaesthesia. A small incision in the lower contour of the areola of about 5 cm. the inframammary sulcus will be the access route for introducing the prosthesis into the pocket created under the gland (subglandular) or under the pectoralis major muscle (submuscular) within which the prosthesis will be inserted. The surgery takes about an hour and a half up to two hours.
